What skills do you need to work in the events industry? | Future Proofing
It’s not new news that the events business is going through a period of dramatic disruption and change.
The covid pandemic, innovations in technology, new audience needs, and preferences, emerging live and online event formats and changing workplace priorities like remote working, sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and social purpose have undoubtedly impacted the future of events.
Recently LinkedIn Corporation announced that it is replacing its entire global events marketing team. A spokesperson at the social media giant announced, “the events space has changed so much and broadly speaking, the new team will focus on creating experiences across virtual, hybrid and in-person to bring people together.”
While LinkedIn’s approach may seem a bit dramatic, it is another sign of the challenges facing the events world. A critical challenge of the re-invention of the ‘events space’ is how we identify, recruit, and retain the talent they need to face this rapidly changing future.
Even as live events seem to be returning post Covid, costs are up, event staff are in short supply, and the types of talent required are changing and elusive.
In this panel session from IBTM World 2022, our speakers explore the events industry talent challenge, examine the types of skills needed, and define some of the best practices for building high-performance, future-proof teams.
